Built To Spill Are Built To Last

Way back in 1992, three guys from Idaho would get together in the middle of the night to access free studio time. After enough jamming and recording, Built To Spill released their 1993 debut album, Ultimate Alternative Wavers.
The group have since survived the great '90s indie rock rat race, changed lineups a few times, remained one of underground rock's critical darlings, and are now ready to show off again with some new haircuts and a new album set for release by Warner on April 11.
You In Reverse is the band's first studio album in five years, and they've added something new to their lineup as well as their sound. The band liked touring guitarist Jim Roth enough to permanently add him to the group. Longtime guest guitarist Brett Netson also came on board for the record and Quasi's Sam Coomes adds a dash of organ magic to the group's guitar soup.
The group say that this is their most collaborative album, as each member wrote his own parts and songs were fleshed out during jam sessions. You In Reverse features the tracks "Liar," "Traces," "Saturday" and "Goin' Against Your Mind," which you can hear on Built To Spill's MySpace site.
BTS explore new territory (including a nine-minute intro track) and the album is said to include influences ranging from new wave to reggae. For the first time since the debut, the group aren't using longtime producer Phil Ek, but have instead decided to self-produce the new album and take every detail into their own hands.
"Sonically, we wanted it to sound like classic rock or soul — a piece of vinyl," frontman Doug Martsch says on the band's MySpace page.
No dates have been announced yet, but the group will hit the road later this year to support the new album.
Here's the track list for You In Reverse:
"Goin' Against Your Mind"
"Trace"
"Liar"
"Saturday"
"Wherever You Go"
"Conventional Wisdom"
