Joaquin Phoenix Directs People In Planes Video

People In Planes

Up-and-coming bands thrive on publicity, so what could be a better way to become known than to have an accomplished actor direct you debut music video?

Joaquin Phoenix (best known for his portrayal of Johnny Cash in the critically acclaimed biopic Walk The Line) recently shot the first video for Welsh rock band People In Planes. The clip for "If You Talk Too Much (My Head Will Explode)" was shot on December 20 at Ontario, California's International Airport.

"I've never heard anything like it," Phoenix says of the single. "The movement and the rhythm of the song gave me my first ideas for images.

"I started doing some research on airports and found a couple of pictures from a Japanese architectural photographer and saw images of airports in blues and yellows. I really loved the idea of combining colours and giving it a really metallic look."

The band were honoured to work with Phoenix.

"Not only is Joaquin a great actor, he's a fantastic video director who has a vision on how to merge music with film to create something new," says PIP guitarist Pete Roberts.

"The second we read Joaquin's treatment for our song, we knew he got it."

The video is set to premiere later this month, and PIP's As Far As The Eye Can See debut album will be released by Wind-up on March 28.

People In Planes will be doing advance promotion for the album in these Canadian cities:
