Tim And Jeff Buckley Get The Tribute Treatment

Jeff And Tim Buckley

Tim Buckley and his son Jeff received more critical acclaim than fame and fortune during their respective careers. But they seem to have developed larger followings after they both met with untimely deaths.

Their legends are only likely to grow next year with Rykodisc's January 31 release of Dream Brother: The Songs Of Jeff & Tim Buckley.

The tribute album features 13 songs, written by both men, interpreted by a variety of artists, including The Magic Numbers, Micah P. Hinson, Sufjan Stevens and The Earlies. David Browne, the author of Dream Brother: The Lives And Music Of Jeff And Tim Buckley, wrote the sleeve notes for the package.

Tim Buckley was influenced by folk, psychedelic rock and progressive jazz in his eclectic work through the '60s and the early '70s. The singer/songwriter sadly died of a heroin overdose in the summer of 1975 at the age of 28 after releasing nine albums.

Jeff Buckley was 30 when he drowned in the Mississippi River while swimming in Memphis, Tennessee in May 1997. The critically acclaimed Grace was Buckley's only studio album fully recorded during his lifetime, while Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk was released a year after his death.

A handful of compilations featuring live performances and previously unreleased tracks have followed this decade.
