Canadians Getting A Special Version Of Weezer's "Drugs"

Those of us still reeling from Weezer's awkwardly misplaced presence at the Playboy Mansion can take a breather — the band will not appear amongst the leather, torches, enslaved humans, werewolf and medieval mind games of their new video.

The video for new single "We Are All On Drugs" was filmed two decades ago. It actually originates from British metal band Grim Reaper's 1985 video for their song "Fear No Evil." In typical '80s metal style, the video featured the Grims saving human slaves from the clutches of an evil werewolf. The heroics were set to the vocals of Steve Grimmett and the guitar playing of Nick Bowcott.

Weezer's version of the video, titled "We Are All On Drugs V1.0," is played over the original version. The scant edits include frontman Rivers Cuomo's vocals matching those of Grimmett's and his guitar solo matching Bowcott's. A statement on the band's website thanks Grim Reaper for letting Weezer use the footage, explaining that the entire concept began as a joke.

"The video was prepared as an experiment and was immediately embraced as funny and strange — not a bad match for Weezer," it reads.

The video will be released exclusively for Canadians and residents of the United Kingdom, as a "proper video" will be shot for American audiences. That's no reason to be bitter, though — as long as the other version doesn't feature the boys resurrecting their "Island In The Sun" romp with baby animals, it can't possibly get any better.
