Blink-182 Break Up — Er, Go On Hiatus

Blink-182

It's official. Blink-182 is the latest band to pull the "hiatus" card, which pretty much means they've broken up (they'll deny this ever happened when they reunite for Warped 2009). At the very least, the indefinite break means no new Blink in the forseeable future.

In Wednesday's announcement, the (former) trio explained how they want to run free, and enjoy the lives they've built on a successful career. "For over a decade, Blink-182 has toured, recorded and promoted non-stop all while trying to balance relationships with family and friends," the statement reads. "To that end, the band has decided to go on an indefinite hiatus to spend some time enjoying the fruits of their labors with loved ones. While there is no set plan for the band to begin working together again, no one knows what tomorrow may bring."

Fans of the reigning pop-punk band had been speculating like crazy since Friday, when Blink didn't show up for a scheduled performance at Anaheim, California's Music For Relief tsunami benefit show. It was announced that they had to pull out for "unexpected circumstances," but a performer who did show up, Dave Navarro, posted on his blog that the band had called it quits — he later apologized for posting the unconfirmed info.

So far there's no word on whether this whole "enjoying life" thing will mean the end of Blink-182's several musical side-projects, including Boxcar Racer and The Transplants. The band members are also involved in various business ventures, such as Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge's clothing line, Atticus.
