C-Murder Indicted On Three-Year-Old Shooting Incident

C-Murder

Imagine you're a dude named C-Murder, standing in front of a Louisiana jury trying to explain that you would never take a person's life. No one believes you.

You're sentenced to life in prison for beating and shooting a teenaged boy to death — even though nine witnesses testified that they never saw you involved in the fight. Then you win a retrial because one of the witnesses who testified against you had a long line of convictions and was thus a tad suspect. You're given a second shot at freedom with a new trial based on second-degree murder charges.

But then, while waiting for the new trial, a grand jury in a neighbouring town indicts you on an attempted second-degree murder charge from a separate case. Suddenly, you're facing two incredibly long prison terms.

This is the life of rapper Corey Miller. Miller was charged with second-degree murder after 16-year-old aspiring rapper Steve Thomas was found dead outside a Jefferson Parish, Louisianna nightclub in January 2002.

Miller was found guilty on September 30, 2003, but has since been awarded a new trial. If convicted again, his sentence will be reduced to 40 years.

Now he's also facing a 50-year prison sentence for an attempted second-degree murder charge that stems from an incident at a Baton Rouge nightclub in 2001.

According to the arrest warrant, Miller tried to enter the club when a security guard stopped him and said he had to be searched first. The rapper asked to see the owner, who came out and said the same thing. Police believe Miller then grabbed a semi-automatic handgun from his waistband and shot at both the owner and the security guard. However, the gun malfunctioned both times and their lives were spared.

Miller turned himself into police two days after a warrant for his arrest was issued, but according to his attorney, he denied the allegations. No trial date has been announced, but it looks like Mr. Murder will have to try to prove that his name is just a stage act.

The 30-year-old is the younger brother of rapper Master P, who formed No Limit Records. He's released three albums with the label, the latest being 2002's Tru Thugs. The other two albums are called Life And Death and Trapped In Crime
