DMX Arrested In Bizarre Car Theft Incident

in

He's a hugely popular rap star/movie actor who's sold millions of records and earned the respect of the hardcore rap community. So why would DMX try to steal a car?

According to the Associated Press, DMX (a.k.a. Earl Simmons) was picked up by police last night (June 24) after he allegedly tried to steal a car from the JFK airport in New York City.

Details surrounding the incident are scant, but DMX and friend Jackie Hudgins were both arrested for attempted robbery, criminal impersonation and criminal mischief. From what we can tell this wasn't your average screwdriver in the ignition job. Port Authority police reportedly spotted DMX and Hudgins arguing with a third man (apparently the owner of the car) in the JFK parking lot.

The police suspect that DMX may have told the dude that he was a federal agent (hence the impersonation charge) in order to get him to surrender his car. Was this all a goof or did DMX actually want the car?

We'll have to wait and see since, as of press time, neither the rapper nor his people have offered any statements to explain the incident.

DMX has a history of getting into trouble. In 1999 he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia and animal cruelty after police found crack pipes, a gun and a stable of pit bulls in his house. The rapper was fined and required to perform community service for the Humane Society.
