Sigur Ros To Release Dance Improv On CD

Sigur Ros

Experimental indie rock fans, your dreams have come true. Acclaimed Icelandic avant-pop band Sigur Ros are preparing to record the music that they performed last year for a dance piece called Split Sides by legendary modern dancer Merce Cunningham.

Sigur Ros' three pieces will be packaged as Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do (the title is in reference to the three sections on the CD: "Ba Ba," "Ti Ki" and "Di Do") and arrive in stores on March 23.

The three pieces were developed from the band improvising live with sheet-fed music boxes, glockenspiel and unique home-made percussive instruments over pre-recorded backing tracks featuring Cunningham's voice and the sound of him tap-dancing. The band originally performed the pieces live at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Next Wave Festival last October and again in Paris in December.

In between those two performances, the members of Sigur Ros went into an Icelandic studio to record a permanent version of their dance score.

If the thought of listening to this unique piece of music through headphones is enough to whip you into an experimental rock-induced orgasm, Canadian Sigur Ros fans can download Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do through Puretracks.com.

Sigur Ros, who just celebrated their 10th anniversary, have retreated into the studio to work on their next album. That record will likely be released this fall.
