The Pixies To Reunite For Coachella

The Pixies

Here comes your favourite indie-rock band back from a decade-long break-up! Turns out that the delicious rumours are true. Organizers of the fifth Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival have just confirmed that indie-rock icons The Pixies will be reuniting for their first performance since their abrupt disbanding in the early '90s. The notoriously quarrelsome rockers will play at the famous festival being held this year at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, CA.

The big question now is, will the entire original cast of The Pixies come out? It is yet to be confirmed if lead singer-guitarist Black Francis (alias Frank Black), drummer David Lovering, guitarist Joey Santiago and bassist Kim Deal (The Breeders) will make amends and play together to the delight of their long-standing fans. Black has seemingly been on good terms with Lovering and Santiago, but things with Deal are rumoured to have been dicey over the years, so keep your fingers crossed!

With the confirmed appearance for the first day of the festival (being held on May 1 and 2 of this year), a flurry of unconfirmed rumours have budded around The Pixies. The anticipation for a permanent reunion, possible tour by the group or even a recording project is circulating across the internet as unconfirmed gossip. One report that can be confirmed is that a Pixies DVD is on the way. The DVD will include eight videos and full-length footage of a concert the band played in '88. We'll let you know once more information on that release emerges.

The Pixies' last major outing before hitting the skids was in support of U2 on a number of their US dates of '92's ZOO TV Tour. The group put out five critically acclaimed studio albums during their run including Come On Pilgrim (1987), Surfer Rosa (1988), Doolittle (1989), Bossanova (1990) and Trompe Le Monde (1991).

The Pixies are not the only big draw confirmed to play at the festival. Brit rockers Radiohead have also been locked down to play during the first day of the festival, as well as Germany's electro-pioneers Kraftwerk, whose confirmed performance will wrap up their three-month world tour. Other groups such as Air, Prefuse 73, The Thrills, Electric Six and festival newbies Sahara Hotnights and The (International) Noise Conspiracy have all been named as Coachella's newly confirmed acts.

As if that were not enough to get you salivating, this year is sure to draw a slew of the biggest and brightest performers to play the festival. Last year's show, which brought in a whopping 68,000 fans, included such acts such as The White Stripes, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Soundtrack Of Our Lives, Primal Scream, Dirty Vegas, The Libertines, Gomez, Black Eyed Peas, Beastie Boys, Blur, Badly Drawn Boy, The Hives and Hot Hot Heat.
