MC Hammer To Become TV Dad

MC Hammer

It looks like Hammer time will soon come once a week, shortly after the dinner hour. The lovable and out-of-work MC Hammer has announced a new show that he's developing for the WB Network that will likely debut next year.

The as-yet untitled show will be loosely based on MC Hammer's own real life. Since leaving the mainstream music scene in the late '90s, Hammer has stepped out of the limelight, preferring to hang out with his family. Hammer has also focussed on his religious faith and has become an ordained minister.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show will focus on the family aspects of Hammer's life, featuring all sorts of delightful pickles involving Hammer and his new stay-at-home dad status. Imagine a cross between Seventh Heaven and The Cosby Show with a dash of '90s hip-hop thrown in for spice.

MC Hammer, a.k.a. Stanley Burrell, came to fame in 1990 with his radio-friendly album Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em and his low-hanging-crotch pants ways. He largely dropped out of the spotlight in 1996 when he filed for bankruptcy, sold his mansion and, later, found religion.

In 2001 he independently released a new album, the patriotic Active Duty. MC Hammer made a minor splash on the small screen last year when he appeared on the WB's Surreal Life reality TV show.
