DMX Arrested For Swearing

Note to the people of St. Kitts: if you're easily offended by profanity, you shouldn't book an artist whose song titles include "My Niggas," "We Don't Give A Fuck" and "Keep Your Shit The Hardest."

Hardcore rapper DMX was arrested on Saturday (June 28) on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts and Nevis for using profane language. While it's not clear exactly what DMX said that landed him in such hot water, we can't imagine that it was anything he wouldn't say in his regular songs.

Luckily, DMX will likely escape any hard jail time. After being thrown in jail, the rapper (real name Earl Simmons) was released on $376 bail and returned to the U.S. Although he's no longer in the country of his arrest and, thus, technically free of the clutches of St. Kitts law, he has promised that he will return to the island for his appointed court date, which is today (June 30).

So how did this all happen?

According to the Associated Press, DMX claims that he was unaware that the St. Kitts obscenity laws were so stringent. St. Kitts information minister Jacinth Henry Martin told AP that DMX signed a contract that detailed the local authority's attitude towards cuss-words.

We'll have to wait and see if that contract turns up in court, as DMX claims that he never signed it and that he would have cancelled the show if he thought his language would be an issue.
