Avril Lavigne, Sum 41 To Cover Metallica

First Bob Dylan and now Metallica? Geez, Avril Lavigne is sure diversifying. Last week we told you that Avril would be covering Bob Dylan's classic "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" for an upcoming War Child Canada benefit compilation. Now MTV have announced that Avril will be among the artists paying homage to Metallica on an upcoming mtvICON special.
mtvICON is MTV's annual tribute concert, which is designed to give props to bands who have made an undeniable contribution to the world of music videos and pop culture in general... and, in fortuitous synchronicity, have albums coming out. This year the music station have chosen to honour Metallica and they've had no trouble finding younger rock acts to participate in the back-patting.
Canadians Avril Lavigne and Sum 41 have both signed up and the other headliners will be Limp Bizkit and Korn. Other performers and artists giving pro-Metallica testimonials will be announced shortly. No, we don't know which Metallica songs Avril and Sum will do, although we'd pay good money to see Avril do a cover of "Master Of Puppets." Or "One." Or any Metallica song that isn't "Enter Sandman," really. mtvICON: Metallica will premiere on MTV Canada Friday May 9 at 9 p.m. ET.
