What a lovely way to start the morning. This morning (March 31), British pop scamp Robbie Williams guest hosted the Roger, Rick And Marilyn show on Toronto’s Chum FM. In the Bravo studios at the Chum/City TV building, Robbie chatted and performed for two hours in front of a small audience of contest winners and media. The typically cheeky Mr. Williams made an unassuming entrance, wandering into the studio with his army fatigue pants pulled down just below his famous bum. He did a stroll around the room, making sure everyone got a peek at the goods and then retreated and waited in the wings until he made his "official" entrance. Over the course of the next couple hours, the ever-charming Williams talked with the radio hosts, entertained the crowd during the commercials with a non-stop stream of jokes and performed four songs from his new album, Escapology: "Feel," "Come Undone," "Nan’s Song" and "Get A Little High," a new song which replaces the spectacular "Hot Fudge" on the new American edition of the CD, which is released stateside tomorrow (April 1). While speaking on the radio, Robbie cracked ‘em up, speaking about the gossip surrounding his highly publicized romances (no, nothing happened with Natalie Imbruglia), his trouble cracking the American market and his recent move to Los Angeles ("They have no clue who I am. Which is great… and very irritating"), his "Feel" video, which was shot near Calgary, his relationship with his late grandmother and his tattoos (he proudly displayed a new one on his collarbone by lifting his shirt — meow!). Robbie also spoke a little bit about some of Canada’s musical exports. He lip-synched along with a Shania Twain song later commenting on the multi-platinum selling country crossover queen: "She must work out. I’d like to work out with her. Oh, c’mon," he continued, winking, "Frankly, Mutt Lange is not an oil painting." He also mentioned that he wouldn’t mind doing a duet with Eminem and didn’t scoff at the suggestion of working with Avril Lavigne, saying that the young Canadian singer had a lot of "potential," and would go far, as long as her surly attitude doesn’t get the best of her. "She may get a little ticked-off," he shrugged. He also offered assessments of the current crop of American pop stars, giving compliments to Jennifer Lopez’s "big ass," calling Mariah Carey "Scary Spice" and describing Christina Aguilera as "swampy" ("She is beautiful, no matter what you say… but she needs to wash!"). Robbie Williams will spend the next day or two doing promo in Toronto — keep your eyes peeled to the television, as he’s got several TV appearances lined up. Look for him on tour in North America, possibly later this year.
