What was widely suspected in June has now been sadly confirmed: Dee Dee Ramone did in fact die as the result of a heroin overdose.

Dee Dee, whose real name was Douglas Glenn Colvin, was found dead in his home on June 5. The musician was found face down on his couch, with a syringe, spoon and several heroin-filled baloons sitting nearby on his kitchen counter.

In the past Dee Dee had admitted to a history of heroin use.

"He had an abrasion on the left side of his forehead and a needle puncture wound on his left arm," a Los Angeles County Coroner spokesperson told the press. Dee Dee Ramone was a founding member of The Ramones, one of America's first and longest-running punk bands, and was responsible for writing a good chunk of the songs, including "Psycho Therapy."

Dee Dee was in the band from its beginnings in 1974, quitting in 1989 to pursue an ill-advised career as a rapper. He rejoined the band in the early '90s. The Ramones came to a definite end last year when lead singer Joey Ramone died of lymphoma. Dee Dee Ramone was only 50 years old at the time of his death.
