They Think All The Bands We Cover Are Lame

Buddy Lee Roth, the masked luchadore behind the Tijuana Bibles, called us last week to say that all the bands we do news on are lame and that he's got some real scoops for us.

While it turns out he's got no adequate explanation why the DDP vs. Undertaker angle is so incredibly bad, the Mexican-wrestling-vintage-porn-lovin' Roth did have some valid news about his gang of garage rock superstars.

First up, eight of the Bibles' songs will be used in the new Johnny Legend/Toby Dammit movie, Sex Mex. From what we can figure, it combines horror porn, Mexican wrestling and lesbian sex. You can find out more at www.smutzine.com/sexmex but we advise you to click on that link ONLY if you're 18 or older and not using a computer at work.

Legend and Dammit both have long and checkered histories. Legend was the songwriter behind the Classy Fred Blassie opus "Pencil Neck Geek" [on The Wrestling Album Vol. 1]. Dammit has done tons of pervy gore stuff, probably the most mainstream of which being the designing of t-shirts for Danzig.

The band are also going to be releasing some new songs. Vinyl fans rejoice because the new stuff will be on an eight-song 10" EP and will come out through Tear It Up Records, a label based in the Netherlands. No word on the exact landing date or Canadian release for that one but they expect to support its release with an 18 date European tour in October.

Next up, and the first point in that one nameless reporter realized he was doing a proper interview and therefore needed to obtain quotes, Roth says the band's appearance has changed.

"We've got our own new look. Y'know that movie The Wanderers?" he asks. "We got custom gang jackets made that look like that."

Finally, and a little closer to home, the Bibles will be making some live appearances in the near future. Coming up quickly is an in-store at the Sunrise Records in downtown Toronto on July 7 along with three other Eastern Canada dates. Roth says they're looking to go out West too, but they're waiting on a sugar daddy to fly them out.

"We don't have time to drive," he says. "We all have jobs."

Tijuana Bible live appearances:
July 7 Toronto, ON @ Sunrise Records in-story
July 14 Toronto, ON @ Horseshoe Tavern
Sept 14 Montreal, QC @ Jailhouse Rock
Sept 15 Ottawa, ON @ Dominion Tavern
