In an episode akin to Matt Good and his snubbing of a Juno, Robert Pollard has turned down a "Lifetime Achievement Award." Only, in the latter case, the 43-year-old heart and soul behind Ohio-based Guided By Voices declined with respect.
Every year the Dayton Music Awards honors an individual that has greatly affected "Dayton's rich musical history." And although Pollard was flattered by his consideration for the award, he says that he "feels it's premature to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award as he's still growing as an artist and his best work is still ahead of him."
If his recent success with Guided By Voices latest disc, Isolation Drills is anything to go by, then he's correct in making that statement. Isolation Drills is their first album to crack the Billboard Top 200 and sold a reported 12,000 copies nationwide in its first two weeks on sale.
