MGB To Do Five Vancouver Shows

The Matthew Good Band Holiday Hootenanny has just gotten bigger. As we're sure you Vancouverites already know, the Matthew Good Band organized a triumphant series of hometown gigs at Vancouver's Commodore Ballroom (the shows, set for Dec. 27, 28 and 30 are all sold out). But now the band have just announced they'll be adding two all-ages shows to the Van City love-in as well. House Of Blues Canada has just announced that two MGB all-ages gigs will be taking place, one on Friday, January 5 and the second on Saturday, January 6 at the Vogue Theatre. Tickets will be $29.50 plus service charge and they'll be going on sale Friday, December 8. A portion of the ticket fee will go towards the St. James Community Service Society Home Support Services. There are also Commodore shows set for Jan. 2 and Jan. 3.
The seven hometown concert blow-out marks a triumphant conclusion to 2000 for the Matthew Good Band. They received 11 MuchMusic Video Award nominations, toured Canada extensively, released the platinum-selling Beautiful Midnight record and last, but not least, were recently announced as one of the top Canadian artists for the year in Chart Magazine's December issue.
Knowing Matt Good's penchant for unusual onstage pageantry and devilish affection for the stage gimmick, we have little doubt that there'll be some extraordinary goings-on afoot during the Van Rock marathon.
Just in case Matt's suffering a little creative burnout, we've provided a handy list of stage props he might want to consider employing during the homestand. Please credit "Aaron Brophy, Chart Magazine."
Here they are:
1. Genuine Mexican wrestling masks.
2. A massive poster of Isaac from Love Boat.
3. Nerf footballs. And lots of 'em.
4. Bouquets of Saskatchewan's official provincial flower. Whatever that is.
5. A fake rap-metal DJ.
6. A banner saying, "Bring me the head of Lenny Bruce."
7. Grade six geography text books.
8. Free cherry Slurpies for all.
9. Those fancy Burger King crowns.
10. One of those old "rainbow" style Canucks jerseys.
11. One word: Nardwuar.
12. Ballet shoes with the hard toes removed for symbolic "shoe fight."
13. Pure grain alcohol.
14. Erotic spanking stations.
15. A multimedia tribute to Thor, Canada's first king of metal.
