U2 Invites At The Drive-In To Join The Farmclub

At The Drive-In

Irish rock band U2 has invited hardcore outfit At The Drive-In to perform with them on MTV program Farmclub.com, ChartAttack can exclusively report. This is the second time a band has invited ATDI to perform with them based on their music and attitude. Rage Against The Machine had the energetic five-piece open for them this summer. In order to make the U2 gig, At The Drive-In has had to cancel a show on Oct. 27 in Lancaster, New York.

"We just found out yesterday. When you get a personal invitation it almost makes you teary-eyed, you know. We decided to go for the experience and come back to Lancaster [later]," says Tony (no last name please), the band's drummer.

The band is still coping with all the attention they've been receiving since signing to Grand Royal and having noted producer Ross Robinson work on album, Relationship Of Command. "To this day I still can't believe it." Tony says it hasn't changed him though, "I'm still a normal guy just like anyone else. I'm just glad we get to do certain experiences. We're lucky enough to do those things."

Having bands like U2 and Rage Against The Machine personally contact At The Drive In to request that they open or perform with them is, "Something you dream of when you're 10. It's really neat that one day it just happens. It's an amazing experience. As long as people don't get down on us for doing this. I don't know anyone that would."

While some purist might shout, "Sell-Out" or at some of their shows they hear "Fugazi," the band aren't having their agent sleep with another agent to get what they want or throw money around. "We have strict rules about not forcing anything to happen. It's really neat when these things do happen."
