The Dears Want Your Cash To Fulfil Grand Dreams

"I think we're on our way to being the best band in the world," says Murray Lightburn, lead singer for Montreal's The Dears. "For me to say that we're the best band in the world now, I know that that's a lie, but we're very close..."

Although it's a statement that's almost becoming cliche because of its frequent use amongst brash, up-and-coming artists, with The Dears that long-odds bet just may cash out.

Combining the best of Blur's orchestral epics with the slashing morbidity of the Mozzer at his peak, what this band represent is a grandiose flip-off to the antiseptic modern rock that rules the day in our fair land. And with buzz solidified now in both Montreal and Toronto, the good ship Dears is going international.

Next month they'll be heading to New York for the prestigious CMJ music festival. And their record End Of A Hollywood Bedtime Story will be released in the States on Oct. 24. In addition, the band will be the following dates, with the college rock dream bill featuring them and Danko Jones tonight in London, ON:
September 28 London, ON @ Call the Office w/Danko Jones
September 29 Toronto, ON @ El Mocambo (downstairs) w/Music for Mapmakers
September 30 Hamilton, ON @ Hudson Club
September 21 New York, NY @ The Fez (CMJ Fest. - 7:30 p.m.)
September 27 Windsor, ON @ Press Club (Fantastic Pop Festival) w/Neck
November 23 Montreal, QC @ Cafe Campus w/special guests

Of course, The Dears aren't just talking big, they're thinking big too.

"I think we're looking to the future big-time," says Lightburn. "I think we need some serious fucking cash to do the things we want to do — not because we want hookers and blow by the mixing desk. The things we want to do are pretty grand."
