It's become an obsession of late for Toronto blogs to keep an eye on Hamilton, the city 45 minutes down the road, like the little sister you're worried might one day be cooler than you. If you've had the thought, she might already be. Gulp.
Hamilton scene lifer Dylan "The Dill" Hudecki has curated a free 17-song mixtape to take a snapshot of the #HamOnt scene in 2016 and to amplify its noise well beyond city limits. You can download All the Cool Things' HamOnt Music Recap '16 for free here.
Presented by All The Cool Things, HamOnt Music Recap '16 finds a diverse musical ecosystem — from seedy singers/songwriters to UK garage upstarts, post-hardcore heroics, and an XL-sized funk and hip-hop posse cut — flourishing just a little underground.
“You already know that Arkells, Monster Truck, Jessy Lanza, Terra Lightfoot, Junior Boys and Dirty Nil are all doing great out there across Canada and beyond," Hudecki says, "but the rest of the Hamilton indie music scene is still thriving as always."
