Full Screen is our rumination on the remarkable music videos of the day.
Allie X, "All the Rage"
In "All the Rage," Oakville-born, L.A.-based artist Allie X teams up with drag queen Violet Chachki to take her disco pop cabaret on the road. The pair stomp up the PCH under the beating California sun in full goth glam, as if with hard work and perseverance you can will yourself to become "all the rage." But you won't get where you want to go without some sweat.
Allie X's CollXtion II will arrive later in 2016.
Twist, "Can't Wait"
Toronto's Twist give the wildly catchy surf-gaze number, "I Can't Wait," a video directed by Benjamin Dabu that relishes the good moments — skateboarding on a perfect day, snuggling up with your pup, sharing a smoke with your buddy, riding around in a convertible. Sometimes, when you're balled with anxiety, you've gotta remind yourself that these times lie ahead, too.
Twist's Spectral is out now on Buzz Records.
Sleigh Bells, "It's Just Us Now"
When narrative is thin, our minds want to fill in the blanks. What is the Brooklyn electro-rock duo Sleigh Bells telling us with these few images: Alexis Krauss crying in a pool, Derek Miller (who also directed) playing guitar in a graveyard with his face covered by a bandana, and a banner that says "Keep faith"? If this were a Mickey's beer cap puzzle, I'd guess something tough and mantric like: Loss is inevitable, keep on. Then again, I'm usually pretty bad at those things.
