Full Screen collects all of the remarkable videos we've seen in the last 24 hours. Today, Kendrick takes the throne, Valery Gore visits the dollar store, Blanck Mass are creepy hypnotists, Azealia Banks is normal... for her.
Kendrick Lamar, "King Kunta"
The Director X vision for "King Kunta" is an on-the-nose throwback to those West Coast party videos Snoop, Dre, and 2Pac used deliver pretty regularly in the '90s — the kind of thing Kendrick would have grown up watching (story is: youngster Kendrick was actually onset for the original "California Love" video). It checks near every box: lowriders, dancers, a convenience store, some dude spinning the tires on his sport bike. But then we have Kendrick seated at his throne. King of Compton. King of the West Coast? The King of hip-hop? Let's not forget this is all pinned to a song couched in the story of Kunta Kinte, a Virginian slave who refused to integrate into plantation slave life, tried to escape and had his right foot cut off as punishment. - Chris Hampton
Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly was our Staff Pick last week. It's out now via TDE/Interscope.
Valery Gore, "Chinook"
It's amazing how much you can wring out of a miniscule props budget (trust us). For this abandoned-building loft party, director Mina Sewell Mancuso treats Valery Gore to a trip to the dollar store, and she then proceeds to have as much fun as you can have alone: kicking around balloons, shooting confetti and rhythmic gymnastic routining like no one's watching. - Richard Trapunski
Azealia Banks, "Ice Princess"
The new video for Azealia Banks’ “Ice Princess” is set inside a cold dystopian world. Banks transcends all boundaries and wears a 12-piece snake hat and a scaly bodysuit while surrounded by ice and diamonds. All in a day's work as she admires her Star Wars-like army of robots and blasts rainbow geometrics that birth out of a volcano, because everything is definitely normal here. You can also see her ride a dinosaur-sized snake. Why not? - Ryan Parker
Azealia Banks' debut album Broke With Expensive Taste is out now.
Blanck Mass, "Dead Format"
Benjamin John Power, a.k.a. Blanck Mass, is probably best known as half of Fuck Buttons. The video, directed by Konx-om-Pax, works like that swinging pocket watch fabled of stage hypnotists. Set to Blanck Mass' dark, worming synthesizers, the abstract and formless visuals lull you into a focused, suggestive trance. Never mind that thing you were doing. You can work later. Press replay on that video. Press replay on that video. Press replay on that video... - Chris Hampton
