Last week we told you to get excited about G Herbo aka Lil Herb, one of Chicago's most lyrical upcoming emcees. Now his first mixtape Welcome To Fazoland is out, and true to the amount of label shout-outs here (he's still not officially signed), Herb keeps his style prismatic to help him stand out. For every massive and nihilistic drill banger his gravelly voice is suited for (Lil Bibby, Lil Durk and King Louie all feature), there's a track that showcases his catalogue of flows - all soured with anxiety - and the deep wellspring from which he draws his verses. Check out the Alchemist-styled soulful struggle of "Fight Or Flight," or his atonement on "Mamma I'm Sorry," touching and joyful.
It's a very strong and dynamic release from G Herbo that probably shouldn't be free, but it is, over at DatPiff.
