What to see at Pop Montreal on Friday night, in playlist form

Rare appearances from R&B and disco legends, art-pop, and razor-fanged post-punk.

- Sep 27, 2013

Pop Montreal is kicking off. There are a lot of concerts you can go see. Each day we're going to list which shows you should make time for, with songs by the artists playing for convincing's sake.

Friday, September 27th

The-Dream, Mozart’s Sister, and Team Rockit @ L'Olympia. 8PM. $40.

The show of the year for true R&B heads, backpackers, backpackers who think they're true R&B heads, the horny, the sated, the trendy, the haters, and everyone else. Go to this.

The-Dream - Love King

Born Gold, Pat Jordache, Freelove Fenner, The Moment and Fragile Feet @ Divan Orange. 8:30PM. $10.

But yeah, $40 is a lot of money. Divan Orange is hosting a showcase of striking pop talent for 1/4 the price. You're pretty much assured great performances from everyone since they'll be so thankful you're not off watching The-Dream.

Born Gold - Hunger (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

Pop. 1280, Le Monde dans le Feu, Lungbutter, and WTCHS @ CFC. 9:30PM. $10

Maybe you want to watch some music that will growl at you. Sacred Bones superstars Pop. 1280 and Hamilton heroes WTCHS fill out an evening of sinister post-punk. If you're looking for a shorty who's into existentialism and druids, throw on your most flattering robes and get to the CFC.

POP. 1280 "BODIES IN THE DUNES" MUSIC VIDEO

Pierre Perpall, Fabricville, and Why Alex, Why? @ Église POP Little Burgundy. 11 PM. $15.

Pierre Perpall is a legend of both Montreal disco covers and website design. One of his original songs was featured on Chromeo's edition of DJ-Kicks. You probably won't dance as earnestly to anything for the rest of the year.

Pierre Perpall a tva la chanson ( ca depend de qui ) et ca tourne
