Pop Montreal is kicking off. There are a lot of concerts you can go see. Each day we're going to list which shows you should make time for, with songs by the artists playing for convincing's sake.
Thursday, September 26th
Colin Stetson, Tim Hecker, and Bobo & Chris @ Théâtre Rialto. 8:30PM. $18.
It's a gala for two of our favorite Polaris Music Prize rejects, plus another band we've never heard of. Don't believe a sax can rock? Don't believe drone can roll? This show will convert you.
Arbutus X UNO Showcase : Doldrums (DJ Set) + Gobby + TOPS + Ian Isiah + Andy Boay @ Cabaret Playhouse. 8:30 PM. $8.
Cabaret Playhouse is the place to be if you want to both stare at people hotter than you and feel self-conscious about your outfit, so you twist your face into a grimace to pretend like who you are is some kind of joke everyone should be in on.
Other than that, one of New York's hottest electronic labels visits Montreal's newest cultural epicentre, Arbutus Records. Their rosters will collide for an evening of pop's future, today, surrounded by yesterday's fashions.
DJ Vadim, DJ Brace, Valley @ Cabaret Underworld. 11 PM. $10.
Who knows what these turntable wizards will play? Whatever comes out of the speakers will definitely be something you can dance to. But maybe not with like, a first date, because you might start flailing a little bit. That's a fourth date move.
