MP3 Roundup: New music from The Polyphonic Spree, Patrick Watson, and Eight and a Half

The Polyphonic Spree - “What Would You Do”

The Polyphonic Spree are back. The orchestral rock collective have announced their first tour since 2007, and to celebrate we get “What Would You Do,” a triumphant and dangerously catchy single that will soon be released physically and digitally (along with a “surprise B-side”). If this single doesn't get you excited for their forthcoming US dates, check out this tour trailer video, which features “What Would You Do” set to footage of Spree's amazing live shows.

Patrick Watson - “Into Giants”

After touring the globe for the past five years, Patrick Watson and co. have announced the release of their third album entitled, Adventures In Your Own Backyard on April 17th in Canada and May 1st in the United States. The record was recorded at Watson’s apartment home in Montreal and is said to be more simplified and subtle in comparison to their previous work, as you can tell from the first single “Into Giants.” Watson went on to say that they “[made] the kind of music [they] would want to listen to at home”. Nothing like a home-cooked record. You can download this track for free here.

Eight and a Half - “Go Ego”

It'll be a while until Eight and a Half will be rid of their unshakeable tagline -- “former members of The Stills and Broken Social Scene” -- but if their forthcoming album Scissors is as good as the title track and “Go Ego” suggests, they'll have no problem establishing themselves as more than just an offshoot. “Go Ego” is pop perfection, though it could benefit from more of the weirdness we heard in “Scissors.”
