In a surprise move, New Zealand has granted Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom bail, giving him a chance to clear his name and also reclaim his title as the best Modern Warfare 3 player in the world, if he has the time.
The US State Department claims that his website has cost the movie and music industries at least half a billion dollars in lost revenue, and as such are eager for New Zealand to grant their extradition request. With the US Government looking to make an example of him, you're probably going to have to find a new place to stream your shows, before that also gets taken down in a high-profile raid, leaving you to worry for a few days about whether or not “the man” knows how much Downton Abbey you've illegally streamed.
In a statement, Dotcom said "I am relieved to go home to see my family, my three little kids and my pregnant wife...And I hope you understand that that is all I want to say right now." The heretofore-unknown existence of a family adds a degree of humanity to Dotcom that will surprise a lot of people, especially those of us who have seen the pictures of him tastelessly revelling in his obscene wealth.
Assuming he hasn't come to his senses in prison, Kim's also prepping to release an album. Stream the infamous “Megaupload Song” below, and get a sense of where the man is at musically.
