Shlohmo – “Rained The Whole Time” (Nicolas Jaar Remix)

Nicolas Jaar continues being painfully great with this remix of New York producer Shlohmo’s “Rained the Whole Time,” which is included Shlohmo’s new Vacation 12″. It’s a dense, hiss-laden take on the excellent original, and a painful reminder that 22-year-olds are taking over your iPod.

He may be only 26 years old, but Alberta poet laureate Cadence Weapon is pining for 1988, a time when rap was barely any older than he was. Produced by/sampling Montreal’s fast-rising Grimes, the lyrics long for a time when the rap game was simpler while the instrumental creak and grinds like a garbled transmission from the future. And no, he’s not having it both ways, just the best of both worlds.
