The Men – “Ex-Dreams”

At a little before the two-minute mark, the wailing guitars and crashing drums suddenly cease—a riveting moment that feels like a gasp for air. The Men’s penchant for uninhibited rock is in full force in “Ex-Dreams,” the closing track off of their upcoming album Open Your Heart, which is refreshing in its lack of tricks. It is pure, loud, it is immediate.

Unexpected collaborations happen frequently, but rarely do they make as much sense as London dance producer Jam City’s ode to the time after dusk and before dawn, made complete by Oakland haze-rap dup Main Attrakionz. Crickets chirp and metallic percussion hit occasionally without rhythm as Squadda B and Mondre . The track finds the areas where dub and “based” hip-hop overlap, for a track that sounds like it could only have been released right now.

SBTRKT – “Hold On” (Sisi Bakbak Remix)

Masked London producer SBTRKT has had one of his songs remixed by someone who may or may not be Thom Yorke. Whoever the oddly-named artist is, he’s created a complex track perfect for further remixes, with vocals that definitely sound like something Yorke would have done
