At last, the band that soundtracked the summer of 2010 for anyone in their late teens/early twenties is back. Sleigh Bells, the band who finally cracked the whole rap/rock thing by not taking themselves too seriously, has released a trailer for their new album, a two-minute chronicle of over two years of touring. Over an ominous guitar line that’s more interesting than anything off of their debut Treats, shots of lead singer Alexis Krauss combing her hair are interspersed with home videos of her and lead guitarist David E. Miller performing their blistering live show, goofing off in a dope looking studio, and doing that tongue-out-the-side-of-mouth thing that’s so popular with their target demographic.
See, I dug their first album. It had a fresh combination of school yard chants and hand clapping rhythms, along with riffs that sounded like they were written by a heavy metal-loving Tom Sawyer. (I didn’t like “Rill Rill” though. The song couldn’t get from under the sample’s shadow.) Hopefully Krauss’s Sgt. Pepper/Joseph Stalin getup doesn’t mean they’re going to lose their good humour. Guess we’ll see in early 2012, when their sophomore joint Reign in Terror drops.
