Orchestral folk rock really seems to thrive in Canada.
There are numerous bands trying their hands at it, but few do it
with as much heart as Vancouver’s own Dan Mangan.

His music career
started modestly, with simple homemade recordings been sold or given
away while he was attending the University of British Columbia. Soon
enough, people began to catch wind of Mangan’s talent, and his first
record was released by Warner… albeit in Australia, of all places. However, it
didn’t take long  for the Toronto-based indie label Arts & Crafts to sign Mangan, releasing his stellar, Polaris Prize-nominated album Nice, Nice, Very Nice in 2010.

His newest record, Oh Fortune is
an endearing folk album, flushed out by strings, brass and some
left-of-center song structures. Mangan’s voice has the signature scruff
of a good storyteller, but his band knows when to keep things smooth, and
when to unleash walls of noise to mix things up.

Below is the tracklist for Mangan's mix, and head to ArtistMixtapes to stream the whole thing.
