The festive season is upon us. Wait, is it? Either way, the adorkable duo She & Him performed their throwback version of “The Christmas Waltz” on The Tonight Show last evening. They’re basically this generation’s Karen and Richard Carpenter.
If you’re not guzzling back alcoholic eggnog yet, perhaps M. Ward’s delicate nylon string plucks will get you in the spirit. He sets a more cozy tone with his somber guitar than your Uncle Jim’s oddly comforting drunken slurring. The warm fireplace backdrop that looks Santa-ready oughta smack a grin on your face, too.
As for the new girl, Zooey Deschanel, her cheerful and sweet serenades are as engaging as when we first set our ears on her “Baby It’s Cold Outside” rendition in Elf, all those years ago. Her famously awkward dance moves have stepped up a notch, with her blank glare no doubt aimed at Ben Gibbard. That bastard.
The folky outfit is dazzlingly bittersweet, and it’s an intimate performance that is rare on late-night television these days. She & Him is set to perform another song from A Very She & Him Christmas with a full band when they drop in on the Ellen DeGeneres show this Thursday. Video below:
