Here’s something that ought to hit you like something weighing sixteen stone (224 pounds) flying at 100 kilometres an hour: Bush are back.
The ’90s post-grunge band already announced they were going to reunite last year, when they said they would play their first show in eight years at Fontana, Calif.’s Epicenter Music Festival in September. Then, they also said they were going to release a new album called Everything Always Now.
But things have slightly changed, and now the LP’s called The Sea Of Memories, and is coming out in September. “All My Life,” a track from it, is also available for download at EA.com.
And guess what! There’ll be even more new Bush music to come when NHL 12, which will be playable on Sony PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, hits stores Sept. 13. An unnamed new Bush tune will be featured on its soundtrack.
Bush split up in 2003 after releasing their The Golden State album the year before. Frontman Gavin Rossdale went on to form another post-grunge band called Institute in 2004, which released one album, Distort Yourself, in 2005. He’s since put out one solo album, WANDERlust.
Rossdale decided to try and reform Bush a few years ago when he headed into the studio to record new solo material and something didn’t quite feel right.
“It just dawned on me that really kind of the weakest link in doing these songswas maybe bringing it under my own name,” Rossdale told The Pulse Of Radio.
“I felt that the solo thing was cool, but it was more by default than design, and I really was just thinking, ‘Man, this should just be – why is this not Bush? I mean, this is crazy.’”
Original drummer Robin Goodridge is back for the reunion, but founding bassist Dave Parsons and guitarist Nigel Pulsford will not be along. Institute axeman Chris Traynor will be taking up guitar duties instead, while Corey Britz will be playing bass.
Five other songs in addition to “All My Life” will be included on The Sea Of Memories. They’re dubbed “Mirror Of The Signs,” “Afterlife,” “Heart Of The Matter,” “Lost In You” and “Heroes Never Die.” Superproducer Bob Rock (Bryan Adams, Metallica) is helming the album.
