A few weeks back, it was revealed that the uber geeky kings of geekdom over at Facebook were working on some kind of incredibly nerdy music service with Swedish DMR music streaming service Spotify.
But a new rumour indicates the service may be much more of a big deal.
Tech blog Gizmodo reports that Facebook is also probably going to team with Pandora and Rhapsody to introduce the service, which sounds pretty… well… look out, Steve Jobs.
It will reportedly be contained with a tab dubbed “Music,” which will show up if a particular Facebook user’s listened to tunes using Spotify, Rhapsody or Pandora or one of the other services (who knows, there could end up being more) Facebook’s partnered with.
When you click on the tab, a page called “Music Dashboard” will show up, which makes the whole thing sound not unlike platforms like Last.fm.
A “Persistent Playback/Pause” button will then show up in the bottom right hand corner, and if you put your mouse over it, it’ll show what tunes are playing on the particular service you’re using. Another page with a snapshot of songs you’ve listened to on services will list your top played tracks.
But here’s where it gets really cool.
You’ll receive notifications if your friends listen to songs recommended by you or that are listed on your Facebook music profile, and your friends can also recommend songs for you to listen to. Lists of your friends’ top songs, along with top albums they’re listening to, will also be available.
Facebook is reported to be launching their music service in August.
