Pint-sized Glenn Danzig (height-wize, he’s about 5’3″? 5’5″?) is well known for his predilection for pumping iron and a leather-clad piece of muscle. He’s got a classic case of little person syndrome in that he thinks he’s taller than he is.
So given that the former Misfits and Samhain frontman’s a muscly, teeny weeny guy, it shouldn’t be surprising that a new measurement, the Danzig, has been created. Of course, it doesn’t measure things by height because the idea is Danzig is heavy shit, and it takes quite a lot of kilograms, metres, litres and joules to get a Danzig. If you were to use a Danzig as a measurement for height, you’d end up with tons of them and then you’d just look silly.
For example, this writer weighs 56 kilograms, which is barely one Danzig. That’s kind of pathetic in terms of Danzigs, innit? But five metres (that’s about 16.5 feet for you Americans) is about three Danzigs. (Come to think of it, they really should make some kind of conversion for the imperial system, considering Danzig is an American and all.)
In case you’re curious about what exactly a single Danzig equals, here’s a breakdown from Metal Injection:
0.625 Danzigs = 1 metre
0.012 Danzigs = 1 kg
0.28 Danzigs = 1 square metre
0.012 Danzigs = 1 L
o.0009891 Danzigs = 1 joule
All of this might be quite confusing for those who are in the dark about Danzig and don’t have enough joules to come up with a single Danzig. For example, CHARTattack contributor Steve McLean pointed out in typical fashion:
“I was thinking that if I didn’t know who Glenn was, it would remind me of one of those alien measurements they used to have on Star Trek. That made me appreciate it even more.
