After the 2003 split of Blur, drummer Dave Rowntree went through somewhat of a mid-pop life crisis.
With Damon Albarn shifting his priorities to Gorillaz, Graham Coxon dabbling in a solo career and Alex James blossoming into a food columnist, Rowntree did what anyone uncertain of their future does: he enrolled in law school.
As a lawyer-to-be and former parliamentary candidate for the Labour party, Rowntree runs a blog that details his latest political activism. In an update yesterday, apologized for an attack he unleashed on Nardwuar during a 2003 interview.
As evidenced in this clip, Rowntree plays the role of douchebag, antagonizing Nardwuar by throwing around his hat, glasses, interview questions and generally getting all up in his grill.
At one point, Nardwuar even asks James and Albarn what gives Rowntree that "fire in his belly" (read: propensity to be an asshole) and the resounding answer is cocaine.
In his blog post, Rowntree chalks up his bad behaviour to his drug addiction in the '90s, stating, "the day after a cocaine binge I'd sometimes fly into a murderous rage, and take it out on whoever happened to be around. In this case, it happened to be the journalist."
Now pushing 47 and on the straight and narrow, Rowntree keeps this YouTube memento on his phone as a virtual reminder that drug use transforms him into a raging dick.
Charlie Sheen, take note.
