Tokyo Police Club Hold On To #1 For Second Week

Tokyo Police Club's Champ, last week's top album, continues to hold the #1 spot on the campus chart for the week of July 18 to 24, 2010.
Wolf Parade's Expo 86, the #2 album. I actually thought Wolf Parade were going to hit #1 by now because each of the Montreal-based quartet's previous releases, the self-titled EP, Apologies To The Queen Mary and At Mount Zoomer have topped the campus charts.
Expo 86 made a big jump into the top 10 two charts ago, which was followed by a two-place jump last week to the runner-up position. Still, Tokyo Police Club's charting totals are substantially more than Wolf Parade's, at 1,248 to 1,080. In fact, Expo 86 is close to losing its position to Broken Social Scene's Forgiveness Rock Record, a former #1, which holds onto to its #3 spot with 1,012 points.
This week, we throw another former chart champ into the stew, as Stars' The Five Ghosts rises nine places to land at #4 with 960 points. Stars' Set Yourself On Fire holds the record for most consecutive weeks at #1 with 10. So there's a chance they could be the top album next week, especially if many college radio programmers across the nation go out and see Inception. Stars are featured in the July edition of the SIRIUS Backstage Pass hosted by the insufferable Andreanne Sasseville running in the ad loop during the pre-film programming.
The Black Keys' Brothers falls a spot to #5 receiving 858 points this week. The Sadies' Darker Circles, with its 834 points, experiences an impressive resurgence, rising eight places to stop their recent trend of consecutive drops down the chart since occupying a place in the top five three weeks ago.
Shad's TSOL falls two places to #7, tallying 791 points. That's followed by the album with the biggest jump into into the top 10. Sarah Harmer's Oh Little Fire jumps 23 positions to #8. Oh Little Fire received 752 points to fuel this big leap. The Roots' How I Got Over falls three places to #9 with 690 points, followed by The New Pornographers' Together. It re-enters the top 10 with a two-place rise, garnering 624 points.
Jane Vain And The Dark Matter's Give Us Your Hands is the Chart Sizzler Award winner this week, arriving at #23. It was a close race for the top debut, with Five Alarm Funk's Anything Is Possible entering at #25 and Fol Chen's Part II: The New December at #29.
There's a quintet of new entries further down the chart, led by Baths' Cerulean at #40, followed sequentially by Sean Nicolas Savage's Movin' Up In Society at #41, Tradition's In Small Gestures So Huge Love Is Everywhere at #42, Cyclist's Double Dip EP at #43 and Dvas' Society.
Plants And Animals slowly creep toward the pack of long-serving albums on the campus chart. La La Land remains at #37 in its 17th week on the chart, while The Besnard Lakes' The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night re-enters at #47 in its 16th week on the chart.
There's a few changes to the #1 albums on the five specialty charts, and there continues to be more substantial shifts below their top albums.
Steve Coleman And Five Elements' Harvesting Semblances And Affinities remains at #1 on the Jazz/Blues chart with Sunna Gunnlaugs' The Dream entering at #3, this chart's highest new item.
D-Sisive's Vaudeville holds the top spot on the Hip Hop top 10, while Jeff Spec's Sneakerboxxx debuts at #7 and Dante Lasalle's Back In Blue comes in at #8.
Striker's Eyes In The Night retains the #1 spot on the Metal/Punk chart and is joined by Nachtmystium's Addicts: Black Meddle Pt. II arriving at #2. It's this week's highest new entry on the five specialty charts.
The other two top 10 charts have new #1 albums. The Chemical Brothers' Further jumps over the Crystal Castles' second self-titled work to grab the top spot on the Electronic chart, while Konono No. 1's Assume Crash Position rises seven position to take over #1 on the World/Folk top 10.
Note: the actual "charts" on the Charts section continue to be offline while we finish the maintenance on our recent redesign. Those charts should be back online and published shortly.
