BRMC Bassist's Dad Dies At Show

The Call's Michael Been

Michael Been, singer/guitarist for '80s band The Call and father of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club bassist Robert Been, unfortunately died at a BRMC show last night.

Been, 60, had been on tour with BMRC in Europe as their sound engineer. He suffered a heart attack back stage at the Pukkelpop festival in Hasselt, Belgium.

Been had been working with BMRC quite frequently over the last few years, according to BRMC publicist Juliana Plotkin.

"Often referenced as their fourth member, Been spent countless hours in the studio acting in many roles from mentor and guide," she told CNN.

Been had also co-produced an engineered several of BRMC's albums, including the recently released Beat The Devil's Tattoo.

Been found The Call in 1980 with Scott Musick and Tom Ferrier. They released nine albums over their career, and got their big break when they opened for Peter Gabriel on his 1982 Shock The Monkey tour. Al Gore used The Call's "Let The Day Begin" as his campaign song in the 2000 U.S. presidential election.

It's not known whether any of BRMC's upcoming dates will be affected by Been's death. At the moment, they're all on.
