We asked a pile of our favourite musicians about their top albums of 2010. Here’s what Michael Rault said:
1) The Black Keys — Brothers
When I was asked to throw together a list of my top albums of 2010, I had the sudden realization that I’ve made my way through an entire year without hardly listening to any of the music that’s be issued during that time. I know I must have heard some new music at some point in this last year, but hardly anything came to mind when I sat down to write this list. There were two albums that eventually surfaced as easy choices, the first of which being The Black Keys 2010 release Brothers. “Everlasting Light” is one of my favourite songs of theirs, and there’s a bunch of other cool tunes among the 15 tracks that they laid out in this collection. The Howlin’ Wolf-referencing cover art, and the fact that it was recorded at the legendary Muscle Shoals studio all add to the overall effect.
2) Women — Public Strain
Women’s Public Strain squeezed in at a close second, full of catchy pop melodies hidden amongst noisy walls of basement reverb. The rest of this list is my selections from my friend and co-producer Eric Cheng’s favourite albums of the year. Thanks Eric.
3) Beach House — Teen Dream
4) Woods — At Echo Lake
5) Avey Tare — Down There
