There are whisperings on the internets and many other media that System Of A Down will announce a comeback tour sometime on Monday that will include festival appearances in Europe.
While it’s been System reunion tours have been in the works for a while now, a fan outright asked bassist Shavo Odadjian on Twitter if the latest rumblings were true.
“Stay tuned,” was Odadjian’s response.
Granted, Odadjian’s made comments about the band reuniting (he even tweeted “Are u guys ready for System???” earlier this year) that didn’t come to anything.
But according to Blabbermouth, the latest rumour doesn’t seem that far fetched.
The website reports Andy Copping, organizer of the U.K.’s Download festival, has said specific information about bands playing the festival and ticket information will also be announced on Monday. Blabbermouth says System’s rumoured announcement will include a gig at Download.
The website also reports France’s RTL2 radio station has already announced System Of A Down will perform a gig in Paris on June 6.
System Of A Down have been on hiatus since 2006, following the release of their 2005 Hypnotize album.
Since then, singer Serj Tankian has released two solo albums, Odadjian’s recorded with Wu-Tang Clan and guitarist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan started a new band called Scars On Broadway. Hopefully these latest reunion rumours are true because there’s really only so much more we can take of these horrible System side-projects.
If there is truth to them, it’s possible the band could have decided to get back together at some point this summer. Odadjian got married earlier this year, and in an interview with The Pulse Of Radio in August, Tankian insinuated he and the other members of System had been talking about a reunion at Odadjian’s wedding.
“We have not made any decisions as of yet as to what we’re gonna do. But when we do, it’ll be quite obvious,” he said.
