This week the top 50 campus radio chart features a new #1, few new entries, no albums with 20 or more weeks appearance and a couple of titles that haven’t charted since the leaves were still green.
First off, Diamond Rings‘ Special Affections jumps two places to move into the #1 album position for the week of November 23, 2010. this move forces last week’s #1 Women’s Public Strain to #2 and Deerhunter’s Halcyon Digest down to #3. Suuns’ Zeroes EP jumps five places to #4 pushing last week’s #4 disc, Black Mountain ‘s Wilderness Heart down to #5.
Sufjan Stevens’ The Age Of Adz falls a spot to #6 while Belle And Sebastian ‘s Write About Love holds at #7 again this week as Salteens’ Grey Eyes remains at #8.
Neil Young’s Le Noise falls three spots to #9 and Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs moves back up the chart two places to re-enter the top ten. The Suburbs is also the senior album on the chart now sticking around for 16 weeks.
There are only six new entries on this week’s chart. The Chart Sizzler award goes (almost by acclamation) to Zach Hill‘s Face Tat which debuts at #23. Brian Eno’s Small Craft On A Milk Sea is the runner-up for the prize arriving at #32. Zola Jesus’ Valusia EP debuts at #37 followed by The Sainte Catherines’ Fire Works at #38. The other two debuts are Lynn Miles’ Fall For Beauty at #45 and Fred Squire’s March 12 at #46.
There were two other albums that seemed to be new entries but with a little research, it became apparent that both had some substantial chart success a while back. Rae Spoon’s Love Is A Hunter re-enters at #42. The last time this album charted was during the week of October 12 when it sat #15.
Sarah Harmer’s Oh Little Fire reappears at #50 and last saw some chart action the week of September 7 when Ms. Harmer held the #21 spot. That was 11 weeks ago, one of the longest periods between appearance on the chart.
The only album that had a longer period between chart appearance was Julie Doiron’s I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day which sat on the August 23, 2009 and didn’t return until Jan 12, 2010 — 19 weeks between appearances.
The specialty charts were a bit of a mixed bag with the Hip-Hop top ten featuring nine returning entries from last week compared to the Jazz/Blues chart with six new entries this week.
Fucking Wrath’s Terra Fire holds the #1 album slot on the Metal/Punk chart again this week with Cradle Of Filth’s Darkly, Darkly Venus Aversa debuting at #3.
Ebo Taylor’s Love And Death repeats as the World/Folk #1 with The Good Ones’ Kigali Y Ihazabu arriving at #5 the only new entry on this top ten.
Chromeo’s Business Casual has put together a five week run at #1 on the Electronic chart which features Peril-Elle’s Fog Like This arriving at #5.
More Or Less’ Brunch With A Vengeance jumps two spots to grab the #1 spot on the Hip-Hop top ten which does have a new entry this week.
Henry Threadgill Zooid’s This Brings Us To Vol. II rises six places to top the Jazz/Blues top ten. This isn’t a spot unknown to Threadgill. In fact, the first volume of This Brings Us To hit #1 for a week on December 8, 2009.
The Jazz/Blues chart features six debuts this week led by Richard Underhill’s Free Spirit at #2, Mario Pavone Orange Double Tenor’s Arc Suite at #3 and Phil Hawkins’ Sugarcane Suite at #4.
