A 15-foot ceiling was apparently not enough to contain Glenn Danzig‘s tiny frame and immense ego.
The former Misfits and Samhain frontman is touring in support of his recently released Deth Red Sabaoth studio album and reportedly pulled out a show in Minneapolis at the last minute Tuesday night because… the ceiling was too low.
According to Michelle Metz, who works at the Cabooze venue where Danzig was supposed to play, he pulled out of the show before the doors were even open, leaving the venue to hand out refunds at the last minute.
“Frankly I thought it was all about rock ‘n roll. I had no idea it had to do with the fuckin’ 15-foot ceilings,” Metz told Minneapolis’ Citypages. “We lost several thousand dollars we’re never gonna recoup, between the hospitality, the ads, the runners, the people to pick up at the airport, the this, the that.”
Metz also said in all her years working at Cabooze no one had ever used that excuse to cancel.
Other blogs, meanwhile, suggested Danzig pulled out because the stage was too small.
A Fargo, N.D. radio station asked Danzig why he cancelled his appearance yesterday, and here’s what he had to say:
“Basically, we couldn’t do our show there, but we had the other bands play… We tried to make it work, but at the end of the day it was a production call.”
He stated he didn’t know why the decision was made, and that the DJ interviewing him would “have to talk to my crew” to find out why.
But according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Danzig himself made the call.
Cabooze booker Jason Aukes told the newspaper Danzig walked out the door 30 seconds after arriving, saying simply, “I can’t play here.”
“I don’t know where he was coming from with the ceiling thing,” Metz told Citypages. “He’s too old to do gymnastics; I didn’t get it. I can’t even wrap my head around it. It’s so convoluted.”
Perhaps if Danzig is not a fan of ceilings, he should just start performing every show outside. You’d think with winter coming, he would want to be indoors in such a tiny, cramped, 15-foot space, considering it would be pretty warm since it would be filled with a lot of other sweaty bodies, but hey. Or maybe he should just stay home with his cat.
You can see Danzig here, unless he pulls out saying a door frame is not wide enough to get through or something:
