One might not expect Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour to work with English ambient house duo The Orb on an album. But he has, and his guitar work will be featured on their collaborative Metallic Spheres effort, out Oct. 12.
The two acts decided to collaborate on an album after they worked together on a charity version of CSN and Hollies member Graham Nash’s Chicago. Metallic Spheres was recorded at Orb member Youth’s south London, England studio. Gilmour contributed electric guitar and lap steel to the disc.
The ambient LP is divided into two parts which consist of five separate movements that are less like tracks and more part of a creative whole.
To preview Metallic Spheres, David Gilmour and The Orb have released a video for “Hymnes Of The Sun,” and you can see it below:
You can see Metallic Spheres at a special laser show in Los Angeles on Oct. 12.
You can also see The Orb at Bologna, Italy’s Crash on Oct. 23.
