The Spadina Bus is going back on tour. Jazz fusion band The Shuffle Demons will release the Get On The Bus: The Legend Of The Shuffle Demons DVD this summer and are heading out on a cross-Canada tour to celebrate their 25th anniversary.
The DVD doesn’t have an official release date yet, but it will feature the band’s performances in China, India, Europe and at England’s Stonehenge along with photo galleries and interviews. It will also feature footage from the 2004 event at which the Shuffle Demons broke the Guinness World Record for most saxophones playing at the same time. They assembled 900 saxophones to play the theme from Hockey Night In Canada.
The Shuffle Demons no longer hold the record — according to a press release, it was "unofficially broken by a Taiwanese group last year" — but will try to retake it on Canada Day at Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square. They want to get at least 919 saxophonists together to play "a slightly demonized version" of "O Canada."
You can register for the event online or the day of at 2 p.m. Rehearsals start an hour-and-a-half later and everyone will attempt to break the record at 4:30 p.m. The Shuffle Demons will play a show at Nathan Phillips an hour later.
