As if there weren't enough Wolf bands in the marketplace already, Montreal's AIDS Wolf are joining the lupus party that also includes hometown pals Wolf Parade and We Are Wolves as well as Michigan's Wolf Eyes.
The eight-track The Lovver LP debut was recorded by the noisy, discordant punk band and Arlen Thompson in Montreal and will come out on the Sonic Unyon-distributed Lovepump United label on January 24. Half of AIDS Wolf are Chloe Lum and Yannick Desranleau, who many indie rock hipsters will know from their work as the Seripop graphic design team that's created posters for the likes of Wolf Eyes, The Unicorns and Oneida. So we're pretty sure that The Lovver LP will have a colourful, trippy cover.
In addition to the album, look for AIDS Wolf to appear on a split CD and seven-inch single with Dmonstrations in the spring. The group recently released a split seven-inch with New York band The Fugue.
If you can't wait to get your hands on all of that AIDS Wolf on a physical format, you can listen to four tracks on the band's MySpace site. One of the songs you'll find there, "Fuck You McLean," has a title that's very familiar to ChartAttack's news editor. While you're there, don't forget to check out the naked photo of the band.
AIDS Wolf will be playing CD release shows at The Boat in Toronto on January 6 and at La Sala Rossa in Montreal the next night. Western Canadian dates will follow later that month before the group head across the Atlantic for a series of European shows.
Here's the track list for The Lovvers LP:
