Hip-hop diva Angie Martinez has bailed out of her position as the fourth judge in Fox's second season of American Idol. But fans of the show are not to worry because the original panel still stands. That's right, the vicious Simon Cowell, stunning Paula Abdul and the honourable Randy Jackson are back to critique the new talent. Not even a week after taking on the role of fourth judge, WQHT radio host Martinez has pulled out of the Idolfest and will not be replaced. Martinez said in a statement that being asked to join American Idol was an honour, but she just couldn't continue with the show. "After the first few auditions, I've decided to leave the show because it became too uncomfortable for me to tell someone else to give up on their dream, especially when I realized that many of them have supported my musical career," she said. Martinez went on to thank the Fox television network for asking her aboard and wished every contestant the best of luck. The Hot 97 DJ participated in the auditions in Detroit and New York, but left soon after. Auditions for American Idol are still taking place throughout November in select U.S. cities. The folks at Fox are still deciding on whether or not to air any of Martinez's participation in the auditions, so we'll have to wait and see. The show is scheduled to air in early 2003. Feeling left out? Un-American? Don't sweat it, cause Canadian Idol is coming to town. CTV is working on Canadian Idol, although there are no show times as of yet. The Canuck version will follow the same format as American Idol and should debut sometime in 2003. The Canadian panel of judges has yet to be announced. We're guessing that Angie Martinez won't be on the list. —Karli Vezina
