Eminem — "Beautiful"

Detroit and much of Michigan state have fallen on hard times lately, what with the current recession. Michigan's had its fair share of economic problems for a while, though, and Flint and Detroit (Eminem's hometown) are good evidence of that.

Eminem's video for "Beautiful" addresses these problems and notes that in the 1930s, Michigan was one of eight states that produced 36 per cent of the world's GNP and Detroit was the largest manufacturing city in the world. That's no longer the case.

There are interesting parallels between the video's subject matter and Eminem's own life — as Em wanders through the decaying urban landscape, he wonders how he'll "get out of this slump" and questions whether he's done with rap for good. Hay look, guyz! A metaphor!
