Gatekeeper know a thing or two about the future, both as we hoped it would be and how it actually is. Their new album Young Kronos will have an “official Pirate Bay” torrent, an apparent embrace of the industry's collision course with filesharing's vast and often unscrupulous universe. But for every aspect of our daily lives that's in line with science fiction, there's three or four missing, which adds up to a world stalling on a promised future, and watching The Fifth Element makes us nostalgic for a time that'll never exist.
But “Imperatrix” drops you in the driver's seat of your own four-on-the-floor floating car chase, with opera and desperate strings over gulping acid house with the momentum shifting unpredictably, like turbulence in zero-G. Each of its fifteen knuckles are white, black-blooded and set to battle; what's Martian for “adrenaline” again?
Gatekeeper's Young Kronos is out November 11th via a torrent, with Presto?! handling a “USB token” release.
