A tremendous kick drum and repulsive horror scene can make our hair stand on end. Both of these means accomplish that electric end on both sides of Randomer's new single “Bring/Curtains.” On both bangers the North London producer takes a usually reliable signifier of a good time - four on the floor - and swallows it in a monochrome quicksand of haunted carousel loops and plucked digital basslines tense enough to cut through your throat.
But there's a shift in mood between songs: “Bring” builds and drops with a familiar techno structure with pitched-up vocals cooing away, so you can close your eyes and dance, and ignore the cold, clammy hands slowly wrapping around your throat. “Curtains” is a vampire bat to all that humanity. It's blinkered and focus, roaring across some desolate landscape of a PS1 racing game's future vision. Both are perfect for your next meat packing plant rave, especially if you have stoic hooded butchers staring at the dance floor.
“Bring/Curtains” is out today on Hemlock Recordings. Listen below via FACT.
