Free Time’s “Nothin But Nice” is jangle pop on a can-kicking, slouched-shoulder stroll, through shattering guitar solos that occasionally break its malaise. Dion Nania splays out his troubles in a scrunched-up sneer that sounds bratty, but is actually imploring and weary. “Don’t do me that way.” he begs, almost teasing. It’s that sense of triviality that makes the song’s overall grandiosity so impressive: there’s a lot of comfort in knowing your grievances could be the next great epic. The band’s self-titled LP comes out May 28th on Underwater Peoples.
